Executive Officer's Report
This past month has been filled with meaningful conversations and forward momentum on several key initiatives:
Visit with Secretary Crowfoot
We had the opportunity to meet with Secretary Wade Crowfoot, along with representatives from the City of Fresno and Parks & Public Works, for a site visit to River West. The group reviewed progress on the current contract and discussed next steps for the project.
Strategic Planning Underway
We’ve officially begun the strategic planning process. To ensure board members have an opportunity to contribute, I’ll be holding open office hours every Tuesday from 9:00–11:00 AM. I welcome your input and look forward to shaping our future direction together.
Administrative and Contract Developments
Our team has been actively representing the Conservancy and advancing key initiatives over the past few weeks:
- Attended Fresno’s State of the County event to stay connected with regional priorities and leadership.
- Participated in the Central California Women’s Conference, engaging in meaningful discussions on leadership and community development.
- Attended the R2P2 Regional Restoration Planning session contributing to collaborative restoration and public engagement efforts.
- Successfully hosted the Virtual Fall All Conservancies Meeting, bringing together partners from across the state for a productive and inspiring gathering.
In addition to these events, staff are currently working on:
- Developing Prop 4 Guidelines, Grant Application, and Portal.
- Amending the CHP contract to better align with operational needs.
- Updating the DWR contract to incorporate ArcGIS and GovDelivery services, enhancing our data and communication capabilities.
Property Management and Maintenance Updates
Following feedback from the Office of Administrative Law (OAL), staff have been diligently working to revise the Regulations and submit them for approval ahead of the one-year deadline on October 20th.
Progress is also being made in the recruitment of a new Associate Parks and Recreation Specialist. The position has been posted on CalCareers, and application reviews will begin shortly.
Meanwhile, our property management team has been actively enhancing safety at both the Lanes and Jensen River Ranch properties. At the Lanes site, staff have installed security cameras and window guards to support secure operations. Additionally, Park Maintenance Worker Robert has led crews from Cal Fire and the City of Fresno Public Works in constructing a beautiful new split rail fence along the road that will serve as part of the launch access
Welcoming Our New College Corps Fellows
We’re excited to welcome two new fellows from the Fresno State College Corps Program for the school year!
- Emiliano will serve as our Volunteer Coordinator, focusing on expanding and organizing our volunteer program to increase community engagement and support.
- Manuel will be working closely with our property management team, contributing to a variety of projects including restoration efforts and planning initiatives.
We’re thrilled to have their energy and talents on board and look forward to the great work they’ll accomplish this year!
